1) Not being prepared
You want to go on a date and you’re asking the girl, “So where do we go?” You need to plan the whole evening and know where you are going with a mental picture of how the night will play out in your mind. You don’t want to end up looking utterly confused. You’re the man here so you need to take charge. Preparing also entails that you come looking groomed and well dressed not like homeless person who thinks shaving is an alien idea. Then again, sources reveal that scruffy is the new sexy so be presentably scruffy if that is the direction you want to take. Remember, proper planning prevents poor performance. See what we did there? You’re welcome.
2)Being late
One of the gravest mistakes you can commit on a first date is showing up late to your date or going to pick the girl late. Be on time but don’t be too early either so you don’t seem like a creepy stalker. Drive up to her yard(do not make the mistake of chartering ‘Keke’ Napep sha) and be a true gentleman. Open the car door for her with a subtle and romantic gift waiting for her and make her feel like royalty. This is your time to impress her, in a couple of weeks( or months…or probably years if you have no game whatsoever) you will have her in the palm of your hands and she will be the one craving your attention.
3) “Scoping’ other girls while on the date
Our Almighty Oga at the top has blessed us with various women in different shapes and sizes and every man finds it very difficult to resist the urge to check out that buxom bombshell that just walked by. Guys often make the grave error of checking out other girls while unknown to little old ignorant you, your date shakes her head deep down in her mind wondering if you could be any more disgusting than you already seem. Remember, keep your gaze on the beauty sitting right in front of you because you wouldn’t be seating there if she wasn’t worth the time.
4) Being fake
Fakeness is becoming a major problem with guys these days and lord knows who started it. A lot of men out there think forming an accent and talking like Dangote is your cab driver and Oprah is your housemaid is the surest way to getting a girl to fall for you. What happened to just being yourself? Be cool and articulate, You don’t have to become Patrick Obahiagbon to sound intelligent. With that said, if your English is bad, get help abeg. Life is not hard. Don’t torture that girl with your poor grammar.
5) Trying to talk dirty and being too intimate
Telling her “I love you” on the first date is tantamount to going too far. Plain and simple. Love doesn’t creep up and bite you on the first date, it builds over time. She also doesn’t need to hear about your wild sexual fantasies and escapades. Yes, we know you are a warrior in the bedroom but she doesn’t need to know that yet.
6) Talking about your past relationships
She also doesn’t need to hear about your past relationships and how you hate your ex but can’t stop thinking about her. Grow up already and let bygones be bygones. If you want to talk about your sad love life so bad, book an appointment with a psychologist. Keep the past and the past and focus your attention on the girl. As a matter of fact, don’t reveal so much about yourself on the first date.
7) Sucking at making good conversation
The topic of discussion is always a sketchy issue on first dates. Talking about things like politics and religion will drift your conversations to areas where both your ideological predispositions may collide and worse, it could lead to an argument and you don’t want that. Making offensive jokes is a straight no-no. Keep it light and humorous but don’t send deep ‘yabs’ in her direction, her feelings might get hurt.
